We live in an unincorporated area of the south county suburbs of St. Louis, very close to Grant’s Farm.  After we were married in 1996 we moved from Champaign, Illinois  to Carbondale, Illinois for a year.  Then we moved in July 1997 to a small suburb of St. Louis called Maplewood and got to know the general area.  We bought our current home in March 1999.  We really like living in St. Louis!

 

Scott Paul Shaw, birthday April 8, 1970

 

Grew up in Champaign, Illinois.  Currently works for Sisters of Mercy Healthcare as a Database Administrator.  He also is going to school part time at the University of Missouri - St. Louis to earn an MSMIS degree, a Master's of Science in Management Information Systems.  Scott’s father Stephen, stepmom Jessica and extended family on his father’s side live in the Champaign-Urbana area with the exception of his half brother John, an aunt and cousin in Chicago and an uncle in Colorado.  Scott’s brother James, wife Charity and sons Gavyn and Owen live in Winnebago, Illinois, a town outside of Rockford.   Scott's mother lives in Champaign, Illinois and on her side there are an uncle and aunt plus cousins in California, and extended relatives in Iowa.

 

Laura Catherine (Parks) Shaw, birthday December 10, 1966

 

Grew up in Rock Island, Illinois.  (Born in Montevideo, Uruguay. Dad on overseas assignment for John Deere.)  Currently is a stay-at-home mom, most recently worked as a marketing assistant in the mortgage industry.  Laura’s parents Randall and Margarita Parks moved to St. Louis from Waterloo, Iowa where they had lived since 1987.  The extended family on Laura's father’s side mostly live in Newport News, Virginia with the exception of a couple of cousins in Arkansas and Colorado.  Laura’s older brother Randy lives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and her younger brother David lives in Chico, California.  On Laura’s mother’s side there is an uncle, aunt and cousin in Washington D.C., a cousin in New York and a godmother in Puerto Rico.

 

Jack Stephen Shaw, birthday November 10, 2001

 

Growing.  And growing some more.  He really likes school, and sports.  He's doing tae kwon do and also whatever seasonal sports are going on at the local YMCA.  Jack’s middle name comes from his Grandpa Shaw, Scott’s father Stephen Shaw in Champaign, Illinois.

 

Meghan Ruth Shaw, birthday March 14, 2005

 

A spunky firecracker.  Is smaller than Jack was at the same age so she's moving around much quicker.  Or maybe we're just older and more tired.  Meghan's middle name comes from her Great Grandma Ruth Shaw, Steve's mother. 

 

Scott and Laura’s wedding anniversary is July 19, married in 1996

 

Scott proposed on Valentine's Day 1996 in a beautiful medieval cathedral.  He was on a study fellowship in Regensburg, Germany and I flew out for a week to see him.  We had fun with his friends and were lucky enough to have one of them show us around.  My visit ended with a fun time in Munich before I had to take the plane home.  We decided to have the ceremony that summer because we knew we would be moving to Carbondale, Illinois in the fall and how difficult it would have been to plan the wedding details from there.  We had a small ceremony with family and then a reception at the boathouse at Crystal Lake Park in Urbana.  Scott's German friend visited us a couple of summers ago here in St. Louis and he invited us to stay with him in Germany.  We think that would be a nice anniversary trip one day!
